We are very sorry to announce that our long-time partner and colleague Bill Britt passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, following a long illness. All of us at the firm will miss Bill Britt’s presence as an enduring example of commitment to excellence and unfailing respect for others. Bill and his long-time partner and best friend David Trask officially established the law firm of Trask & Britt in April 1973. The firm, now TraskBritt to continue to honor both of our founders, very quickly became known as one of the top Intellectual Property law firms in Utah and around the country. Bill continued his meaningful contributions to the firm as Senior Counsel after his retirement as a partner, continuing to advise clients, mentor young attorneys and even try patent infringement cases in federal court. Even after being diagnosed with his illness Bill came to the office most days and continued to be involved with both clients and firm members, encouraging and lifting the spirits of all around him.
Bill was known by colleagues, adversaries and the judiciary for his professionalism and civility while representing each and every client to the best of his ability. In 2013, he was formally recognized by the Utah State Bar with the annual Professionalism Award, an award bestowed each year on just one lawyer or judge in Utah “whose deportment in the practice of law represents the highest standards of fairness, integrity, and civility.”
Bill had a rare gift for making everyone around him feel appreciated and valued. We have all been very fortunate to have known Bill and to have experienced his influence as colleagues, partners, employees and, most of all, as his friends.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 5 p.m., at Stark’s Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers please remember Bill in a way of your choosing.
